I want to get better with stick handling and be a hero. I’ve always thought about getting one of these EZ Puck boards. The medium sized boards are 5 feet x 2 feet. They cost about $70. But that’s a little too much for me.
I had this idea of buying some of those special roller hockey tiles. $40 will get you a 4 foot x 2 foot section. But I don’t think this would be very portable. You could probably move it in one go, but I’m guessing it would be a hassle. You would most likely have to set up the tiles somewhere and leave them there. I have this idea of having a mat that I can use wherever I want. Throw it in front of the TV or take it outside if it’s sunny.
IKEA. The place I love to hate. They sell Kolon floor protectors. You’re supposed to put them under your office chair to protect the floor. These mats are about 4 foot x 3 foot. They’re coming in at $19.99. I can do that so I bought one.
The IKEA Kolons are not smooth like an EZ Puck board. They have a little texture. Roller hockey pucks slide pretty well on them. I didn’t really notice a difference between a Kolon and an EZ Puck board. Ice hockey pucks did not slide very well at all. Kolons aren’t an option if you’re using those pucks.
I also tried out a Smart Hockey ball on a Kolon. As expected, there was no problem. The ball rolled around fine.
For $20, you can’t go wrong with an IKEA Kolon. Give it a shot and see if it helps you out. If it doesn’t, use it for its intended purpose … under your computer chair.
